Oakland Chinatown Welcomes Mayor Sheng Thao

The Wa Sung Community Service Club organized an Oakland Chinatown Community event to welcome and celebrate the newly elected City of Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center on January 23, 2023. The public event was free, had refreshments and inspiring entertainment. It was to build cohesiveness amongst everybody and to ensure Oakland Chinatown is constantly on the city and county official's radar. Mayor Sheng Thao mentioned twice in her speech to the audience that the new Lincoln Recreation Center is very important and needs to be considered! We hope you will join Friends of Lincoln Square Park in advocating for this project with all elected officials.

The UC Berkeley Cal VSA Lion Dancers were excited to perform, as Mayor Thao is an alumni of UC Berkeley. The McLane Hmong Dance group from Fresno, CA, proudly attended this event, representing and sharing the Hmong culture to the East Bay. A wonderful time was had by all who attended.
